toby has been ill for 1 week now. he has been in the vet twice and has now been tranfered to glasgow vet hospital (wiepers centre). he has got to undergo more tests but at the moment there is a chance that the problem is renal and he might have kidney failure. he has had a bladder scope today and a catheter put in and the urine tested he has large qualities of protien and blood in his urnie.

has anyone every experianced this and what is to be expected good or bad

Yep, my horse had mild kidney failure - didnt have to go to the vet school but basically he would just stand there with floods of pee coming down. he soaked up 2bales of shavings in 4hours.

he didnt need to go to the vet school, he had the catheter and they found the protein. i cant remember the treatment but i'm guessing your guys is far more serious

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor lad, I really wish I could say something that would help, but i'm afraid i don't.

I did experience something similar with my boy, but he was lossing protein very quickly after being in ITU for a week, they found a bleed in abdonum (sp) so it was a one way ticket out for him sadly, but I guess your boy is also having the best possible treatment where he is and I really really wish him a very happy and speedy recovery.

Have they scanned him yet? myy lad's left kidney was larger than the other, but apparently this can happen??

I do sympathise with you on this one though....
Please keep us posted..and sending you lots of hugs
xx

I am so sorry for you.

He is going to be best place, the weipers saved my horse with his split DDFT and manica flexoria and I have a lot of faith in them.

My horse has kidney dysfunction and needs a low protein & salt diet. He did not need to go to the vet school as it was not serious enough.

Its very unusual to have kidney problems in horses and hopefully, it is nothing to serious with yours.
