Think Tink (8 years old, terrier bitch) may have a kidney infection or something.
She's never been one for peeing in the evening, far preferring to lie by the radiator than go out in the cold

However the past day or so she has been peeing more out on walks, and also has been asking to go out every half hour or so in the evenings.
Then this morning, there was a puddle of "thick" urine, tinged with blood, in her room this morning.

And Tink never makes a mess, she looked mortified.

Anyway, she has a trip to the vets booked, or mother will be booking it, or something, she was mumbling. But anything I can do for her in the meantime?
Are they likely to want a urine sample? As may start trying to get one now as I can't see her liking that.

Definitely sounds like a urinary tract infection. I'm sure the vet will be able to prescribe antibiotics on the basis of what you have said, I've certainly never had to try and get a sample when mine have had an infection! I suggest you get her to the vet as soon as possible, it's not fair for her to be in discomfort, so make sure they fit you in tomorrow. Anti-b's should sort it out.

Make sure she drinks plenty. When I want to encourage my dogs to drink I tinge the water with a little bit of meat, or another tip, fill an empty foil feed tray with water, it takes up the flavour of the jelly left in the tray.

She's booked in for tomorrow now.

Will save her the embaressment of trying to get a sample then

Thanks for the tip, she's not been keen on drinking so will see what she thinks of meaty water.

Hi there, glad you are taking her to vet, B had a very bad UTI earlier this year (I only noticed because it had been snowing

) and we eventually managed to kill it off in June with a very heavy course of anti-biotics, poor fella was so stoic, we had no idea - so the earlier you catch it, the easier it will be treated.

I now watch him peeing like a hawk and have a sample tube and dipstick on standby if anything looks awry

My vet DID want a sample, we just gave him a drink in the vets and chased him around the carpark.

If you want to do one from home, a plastic tray from a ready meal or chinese takeaway is good to catch it!!! Then decant into tube.

Have attempted a sample just in case.

She now thinks I'm some sort of pervert and every time she pees turns to face me

Poor dog.

For future reference, an old frying pan (LABEL IT!!) is also good for collecting samples to decant into a tube or plastic box.

(Have just spent ten minutes markering lots of tupperware boxes that I feed the dog *often quite manky* reward food out of, because of frequent kitchen mix-ups

Think mum would go spare at the thought

Could make for interesting mix ups

Tink ran a mile when she saw me coming with a wee jam jar, never mind a frying pan.
