Kids and ponies....

My sis (who got Black Beauty for xmas!) had the family with her today! My 6 year old niece has a cute lil pony and got given a mini scooper to help poo-pick the field as one of her xmas pressies! (Santa told her she has to help mummy and daddy care for her pony!)

Well, I was watching me sis mess around with Beauty in the school, then heard screaming ad-dabs, and the scoop was abandoned!

Well, she went and howled in the car, then bro-in-law told her the DS was not to be played on that afternoon if she couldnt help care for the pony!

Apparently she told Uncle _____ (my OH) that her 'arms were tired' after scooping up 3 tiny bits, and that was all she could manage, but Daddy said she had to try to scoop at least 1 pile up, then it all kicked off!

I was doing my best not to laugh, but it was hard!

We used to get bribed by the wheelbarrow- for every full wheelbarrow we removed from the fields, we'd get given 50p each. Being rather money motivated, we took our business to the cow fields next to our ponies' field and filled the barrow up with the cow poo, and then covered the top in horse poo... We made a fortune until mum realised!

LOL, i have none of that with my daughter, no muck out, no ride simples!!!! I wont do it when shes there and its got to be done, so she does it!! If there capable of riding there capable of the care!!
Although my daughter likes mucking out so it makes it alot easier!!

aw bless, our 3 (6, 7 and 9) will do poo picking, yard sweeping, cleaning up the feed store, tidy hay etc up all day long and they never get to so much as brush a pony. I was chatting with YO today about how when I was 9 I used to be leading a 15.2 thoroughbred down a couple of busy roads for about 1/2 mile, on my own, to turn him out, I used to spend hours in the stable grooming him, on my own. I used to walk the mini shetland for miles all over the area like a dog just because he was my best friend and I loved to be with him. I couldn't imagine letting ours loose with the ponies, I would worry about them getting hurt in some way. At least when I dare let them start they will be well trained in yard management!

my kids do poo picking (field and stable), waters, hay, feed, boots taken off and rug change. they also help with the rolling up of bandages! they all understand that we have to care for any animal we have.

my stepkids were less helpful even though they are all older than my own kids. they would claim to be tired after brushing one side of a horse and all that but then expected me to tack my horse up for them to ride, caused alot of arguements with my OH as he felt i was picking on HIS kids when all they wanted to do was enjoy the horses, took a long time to get it through to him that i'm not anyone's skivvy and if they want to ride then they have to do the work that goes with it, especially as they didn't pay anything for the ride!

The poo-picker is new and she hasn't had the pony long, she did help 'poo-pick' by searching for them, and fetching and carrying things to help out.

It won't be long before my sis gets her licked into shape...
