My sister and foster- freak :-) Have just started riding and now they want jods hat ect like me. So I was wondering if people could give me advice on what best to get for them. I was thinking ebay because thats where I was made to get all my riding stuff from for my first year because my parents thought it was a 'phase'. Should we get them adjustable hats with them both growing so fast ? I have only bought for myself before and I was out of that fast growing stage,

Personally I would not buy from ebay.
Not for any sinister reason, just that when I was working in a tack shop Charles Owen would send out a rep to show you how to fit it correctly and safely. Guessing for something so important is a bit hit and miss. Rodney Powell also sent out reps-can't reccomend them highly enough.
I went and bought Bubs from the same shop I used to work in knowing that all the staff were trained and put safety before profit.

Ditto the above. You can get loads of Cuddly Pony stuff on ebay and brightly coloured jobs, which my kids love, but please get them fitted for a hat at a tack shop. You never now what's happened to hats sold on ebay.

I am really fussy about my hat, I don't like other people carrying incase they drop it. Each week at riding we have to find 1 thing in the tack room that we know what it is to tell the group and 1 hing we don't know what it is to see if the group can tell us ( its a bit childish, but an effective way of learning) and this week the siblings choose my hat and took it into the kitchen where I was sat across the table as they were explaining they kept picking it up and showing the girls. I felt as if they where holding my heart :-)

I am going to have a good look on ebay tonight and get them two some jods they want matchings ones ( more arguments).

Also try Equestrian Clearance - last year I bought about 5 pairs for about £12 each of good quality nice coloured jodhs for my daughter.
If you're near Wellington Riding (Hants/Berks border), they have a large pile of childrens secondhand hats they're selling off quite cheaply (£10-15)- I think they just replaced a load they use for their riding courses, which they seem to do periodically. As all the riding that those hats would be used for is in a school on a surface, and at that level (complete beginner, so walk trot only - anyone going further would buy their own), I think it highly unlikely they've had any severe impact that would damage them, and would be fine for starting to ride, particularly if there's doubt they might continue or they might outgrow them. I would say these sort of second hand hats would be better than ones of unknown vintage/history you might buy from eBay where they might have gone skedaddling down the road on their head!

You could then get nice hat silks to tone with the jodhs

ETA if you know what sizes you need I can look tomorrow
