Kieffer Wien DL Prof Dressage Saddle...

wonderful saddle and was a perfect fit for my TB (apart from the fact it was missold as a 17" when it was actually 18" - how gutted was I !!). Very little in the way of knee/thigh blocks. Didn't have it long enough to give you a full "how it was to ride in" as it was returned, but the sit in it I did have was very comfortable. Ended up with a Kieffer Lech after all the trauma of the wien.

I have a Norbert Koof jump and have just bought an Action dressage. I've gone with Kieffer as my horse is difficult to fit and the saddles can be altered repeatedly.

My boy is a high withered TB and seems very happy in his Kieffer saddle. I'm having the dressage saddle fitted in a week or so, otherwise I would be able to give a better opinion of their dressage saddles.

As with all saddles, the key thing is having a really good saddle fitter.

Thanks,
I have just bought one. Tried it on my 16.1 TB this morning and it looks to fit him very nicely. Its a MW 17inch. I'm a bit concerned as the gullet at the back seems a bit narrow, can fit 2 of my fingers in there whereas can fit 4 in the gullet of my eventing saddle, thats the only concern that I have at the moment :/.
I'm going to ride in it tomorrow and see what his lordship thinks.
Any more experiences with the kieffers?

I have a Kieffer Kiel

I have a tb with highish withers, huge shoulder and a flattish back and he loves it. It fitted him straight out of the box and he loves it and he has strong opinions on saddles. It has a fibreglass tree which is very light and flexible and can be adjusted on a special bench.

I find it comfy, I think the twist is quite narrow which I like and it suits my long legs as the blocks are not too intrusive

Mine is like this only in Black

The sizing is different though, they come in sizes 2 which I have and is roughly 18" and size 1 which is smaller.

My horse sounds like he has similar conformation to yours. I tried my friends 2yr old Kieffer and he loved it, hence buying one for myself.
My one is a size 1. It looks like it fits beautifully, balanced seat, panels flat all along his back, sits behind his shoulder ect.
Its just the gullet... it's 4/5 fingers at the front and goes to two at the back. I'm just a bit worried it will pinch him. Theres good clearance all the way along though. Maybe I am being paranoid! I'm glad your horse has a flattish back and is ok in it.
Has anyone had an issue with the gullet pinching on the kieffers?

As a fitter my opinion is that any saddle that is only 2 fingers width at the rear gullet will be too narrow on the spine on almost any horse. 2.5 can be okay on VERY fine types, 3 fingers is better on most. 4 fingers might be too wide on a TB which means there is a lack of support for the saddle and the panels may be too narrow in order to avoid ending up below the muscle long the top of the ribcage.

Firewall, I think that's the point I would be looking at getting an independent saddle fitter to check.

I'll see how many fingers I get in the gullet later, never checked but I bought mine from a fitter I trust, secondhand but hardly used.

Thanks. I'll be getting a fitter out at some point but they can't change the width of the gullet at the back so tbh if its too small theres not much point! I'm going to ride in it tomorrow and see what I think, if the panels are sitting on his spine when I ride it'll have to go.

We'll see. The rest of it fits a treat and the panels have been reflocked and are even and very soft.
