I'm thinking of trying my pony in either a plain Kimblewick (no slots) or the Uttoxeter Kimblewick. This would be for out hacking when the pony can sometimes get very strong.

I was wondering - with the unslotted version, how easy is it to vary your hand position to influence the curb action? I like the fact that it would be flexible, but want to quickly be able to apply some pressure if needed. With the Uttoxeter, does the top slot provide a little curb action, the bottom slot has much more leverage and if you don't use the slots it's more like a snaffle?

Please correct me if I've got this wrong!!

I second the Uttoxeter option - you can use either slot or none at all - I would say none gives stronger action than snaffle ?

I prefer the Utoxeter. Used this for many years, and horses seem to like it and go well. also more combinations to try. Don't forget you can put a curb chain on too. My mare likes the mouthpiece but not the curb chain, so I went for the Combi hackamore as same mouth piece but nose pressure too she is not strong but high head carriage she goes so well in this bit, a gamble to spend when i had no clue how it would go but paid off . https://www.equiport.co.uk/products/horse/bits/ported-us-tandem-bit-bb26/. I use the Kimblewick on other horses
