Oh not again, I seem to remember we had the same old rigmarole last year - they were 'forbidden' to come by the Senior Master or something was it? Hope too mny peeps aren't disappointed.

Oh, for pity's sake - there could be any number of perfectly professional reasons why a joint-meet might have to be cancelled.

It really is time to move on...

I feel an amusing little story concerning the Vine is required to inject some laughter, especially at this time of the year. A story that is often retold amongst the family to this day.

Many years ago, circa 1955 or thereabouts, some cousins of mine were out with the Vine on their ponies.

As they were brother and sister aged about nine/ten or thereabouts they were allowed to go out on their own looking after each other - gosh that young and not accompanies by an adult how very un-PC!

When they got home, Mummy said to them, "well darlings did you enjoy yourselves and did anybody speak to you".

"Oh yes we had a wonderful time and the Master spoke to us!" Said with a degree of rehtorical emphasis.

"Really", said Mummy with some surprise, "what did he say?".

"He asked if we had seen the fox".

By this time Mummy was even more suprised, and said, "what did you say?"

"No we had not seen the fox".

The Master then said to us, " well why the b***** h*** not!"

That's when Masters were Masters and children grew up without a PC world around them. ;)

Of course there could, Herne. In reality though, the reasons for cancelling in this case ARE unprofessional (as I was told it by a fuming V&C staff member when I enquired if they would be passing my land.) People HAVE taken days off work for this meet that has been on the V&C's meet card since the start of the season but that Kimblewick pulled out of only last week after an internal disagreement. There is obviously more to it than that, but frankly I am uninterested in the whys of it and am aware that to even breathe about the Kimblewick in a less than rosy way here is akin to mentioning Voldemort at Hogwarts.

I just thought it was worth highlighting the fact that the meet was cancelled since some members of the Kimblewick have been trying to rustle up support for the meet while it was never going to happen, and have been less than forward in spreading the news about the meet being cancelled. I know of one person who swapped her days off and agreed to work over Christmas to maximise her hunting days and is now rather disappointed.
