The only bit I can stop Jack in out hacking/jumping is a Kimblewick or a pelham - (air brakes!!!) - he knows I can stop him in it so instead of carting me, he backs right off and gets behind the bit, which reduces my control, and then when I use my legs to push him on, he leaps forward, drops his head on the ground and yanks me out of the saddle - cunning cob!! Any ideas for a bit that is between these and the <Myler Low port comfort snaffle I ride him in in the school - BTW he seems to like a straight narrow mouthpiece but not a peanut/single joint

Thanks all!

Cobs like straight bars because they give their tonuge lots of room, but they are also easy to lean on.

Our mare leans on pelhams and brings her head so low that you struggle to hold he head up. We find the best solution is to swap to a running gag occasionally this gives you brakes, but lifts the head so stops the cob evading action.

You might find yours will like a waterford gag (has to be running though, not conintental). They are quite expensive though. I suggest waterford as you don't often see a straight bar running bit.

A myler combination bit may work, but I tried both and long and short shanked version, we she liked for showjumping, but ran straight through them out hacking.
