Kincade breastplate- leather coated and peeled off!

Hi has anyone got the kincade eventing breastplate? I bought a brown one last week, conditioned it before use as per instructions, used it today for first time and the brown on the leather has peeled! It did get a bit wet in the rain but it shouldn't peel and scuff should it! Anyone else found this a problem?
 
I'm not really surprised - Kincade aren't famed for their quality :D
I have one of their cheapy bridles and its not too bad, fairly soft and has lasted quite well so far, but its not great, and like your breastplate it has patches where it has peeled at bit. I bought it for hacking, and its been in the sea a few times, so I wasn't really expecting a great deal from it. It was only £30 so I'm not too bothered though!
Did you buy it from a tack shop? If you did you could take it back and either get your money back or swap it for another one, but inspect every one they have in stock and pick the one that feels the best quality - cheap leather has weak/thin patches, so if you have a good look you can pick the one that seems the best. If you bought it online I'd be after a refund, not exchange, as you can't see the product before you swap it in. x
 
Hi yes got it from tack shop. I have a Jeffries bridle that's been fab but can't quite afford a Jeffries breastplate at the moment. Can anyone reccomend a good make?
 
I would definitely take it back, its up to you if you get a refund or swap it :)
Everyone must think I work for them as I always say how much I like their stuff (I'm nothing to do with them, honest!) but I really rate Shires. I have a nice bridle from their Sailsbury range and its fab. I use it for competing and hunting, so its been used and abused, but is still as soft as butter and cleans up perfectly after being smothered in mud and sweat on a regular basis! Have a look on Barnstormers website, they have Shires stuff v cheap on there :)
 
One of those annoying situations where 'you get what you pay for' - I have a Kincade breastplate, lovingly oiled and cared for, only kept for comps, and its rubbish. I vowed I would never buy cheap leather again.

I've picked up plenty of good leatherwork on eBay - secondhand. If you can find one thats been looked after its well worth. I have a Sabre martingale that I bought 2nd hand on there that I've had for 6 years, used every day and still as good as ever - I do look after it though. That cost me £25. Or try Preloved?
