I am trying to find a kind and knowledgeable home for an unwanted 6mth old farm dog. He is black and brown and very submissive- too much so for the job he is being trained to do. I would have him myself but I already have 3 border collies and there isn't enough room on the sofa for another!
He has been kept in a cage all his life and so would need house training and quite a bit of socialisation- but he has a gorgeous temperament (albeit a little shy at the moment). He really deserves a loving home. If anyone is interested or knows of someone who may be would you please pm me for more details.
We are in the north west of England (Lancs)- but i would be willing to travel up to 100miles to deliver him to the right home. Many thanks.

you could contact valgray border collie rescue, they often will put an advert for you on their website to try to find the right new home,it is a site that many border collie fans will check regularly so more likely to get the right home that can cope with a young bc.the "agility net" website is another good one that i believe is free to advertise a rescue.good luck.

Thanks for that info foreverhorses- I will follow it up.
Yes SusieT, the way many farm dogs are kept is well short of ideal. Some farmers treat them like another piece of machinery rather than a living creature.

Wiccaweys BC rescue is worth trying too. Sarah and Paul are extreamly knowledgable (and the most wonderful people too!!) :D

oooh my friend may be very interested.......she is in south east. too far?? pm me if interested in an introduction.....she was a member on here actually, may still be....off she trots to look.

I might have taken him but I have 3 working collies already and another isn't an option unfortunately, will put the word around. 6 months is the sort of age I'd start taking mine out to see sheep but wouldn't expect them to work, if they showed any kind of eye at 6 months I'd be happy! My youngest is 18 months now, she had NO interest whatsoever until her 8 month birthday when something suddenly clicked. her brother however was keen at 4 months. Either way keeping him in a cage is never going to make him more confident or keen on sheep. Working dogs need socialising too, mine go out and do obedience, agility and we're going to have a go at Flyball this year. I've been told I'm too soft on mine but as they still manage a full days work and look happy and healthy I'll carry on the way I am, get really annoyed at how some dogs get treated, often are expensive purchases ( one of mine was £1800) and yet they get left to sleep in damp, cold crappy kennels in all too many cases. Border Collie Rescue definately one of the best as they understand how these dogs think and need to be. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Tchamp- I have pm'd you. I think that it is the pup's temperament that is seen as the problem rather than his willingness to work. He is quite timid and likes to wrap himself round your legs rather than explore. When he first arrived on the yard he was a bouncy normal pup- but 3 months of solitary confinement has changed him. Having got permission from the farmer last Wednesday to take him out I have walked him on a lead, taken him for a short ride in my car and introduced him to one of my dogs. All of these things he was nervous about but soon improved with lots of encouragement and even began to wag his tail! I think that with plenty one on one attention and gradual socialisation he would soon come good.
