hope i havnt already posted this....anyone use/used one effectively? After having my arms pulled off xc and zak rubbing corners of mouth badly was thinking it may be worth a try?

Yes, really rate them, but it will not stop Zaks rubs as you still have to pull the bit for the noseband to actually become effective. What are you using ATM and what does he do?

well he tucks his head under but high up if you get what i mean, and literally just pulls so hard-not completely uncontrollable but my arms litearally feel renched out!!I have tried dutch gag, american gag, pelham, snaffle(lol), myler combination bit and a couple of others-most jointed bits or french links give him bad sores....any suggestions?

ow I have a bit you should try

western sweet iron ported training shank with curb strap. amazing in a word! Dan had a similar phase when jumping stumped a lot of bit peeps as well he was schooling at medium/advanced medium in a snaffle but I just couldn't hold jumping. This bit was the answer!!

also have a kineton noseband.....

You are absolutely right to try a snaffle - sometimes gentle is the way to go! I can see why you are thinking of a kineton, and I would give it a go, maybe try with a snaffle and a mexican grackle too - thing is it will prob just make him tuck in even more - horses that pull in that way are the most infuriating to bit/tackle. Have you tried him in a double?

A BSJA instructor was at my yard, and I had just arrived to grab bit and girth to go shopping.. She mentioned that if you put a synthetic spur strap/flash through the top ring of the three-ring gag (Above the big one) as a curb strap, they never want to lean against the bit as you describe

I haven't tried it, as I went out and bought a french link pelham to try, and so far, so good

dutch gags should be fitted and used with a leather strap as standard.....

a lot, or the majority in fact, are not.

if used without, the whole supposed action is totally lost.

I have tried with a curb strap in the rings, but didnt have much affect!!Also it seemed to raise his neck up even more..weezy-yes they really are!By a double what do you mean?(sorry having momentary blank spot....)

i used a kineton and hanging snaffle on my old horse, who was vvv stonng, and it worked a treat, put sheepskinh on the noseband to stop rubbing, and it reduced the ammount i had to pull by loads, worth a try IMO.
