Went this weekend to Lincoln University, who were holding the King George V cup - judging of the Premium CB stallions - We arrived on the Saturday night to discover that Donkey (who was there for grading and to do the ridden class) was to be stabled next door to 4 stallions, including her dad, Oakenbank Grenadier - thank goodness she was not in season, although she did seem to manage to do a lot of wees!!!

We then spent the first night in our new lorry – I was like a big kid – it was so much fun and so comfy!!

So Sunday morning Donkey was scrubbed and plaited – we then went to watch the actual Stallion judging, - the class was won by Captain Hornblower - who looked magnificent and had such a presence about him. It is amazing that 6 stallions all stabled next to each other and then into the show ring did not put a single foot out of place and all behaved impeccably.

It was then decided to Donkey’s grading – I have applied for her to have pure bred status as she is eligible but not registered as such. The breed committee promised to hold the pure bred ridden class up if needed. Ever tried putting a measuring stick on Donkey? – she did not like this! All of a sudden I was shouted for the class had started and they were waiting for me – so saddle was thrown on (well padded in the under belly area where she has a hole) and I was thrown up – this is the first time she has been ridden properly in 5 weeks – I have been lunging her to keep her fit. So we belted into the ring, well okay we belted into the wrong ring first – had odd stirrups, but too late to correct. First time along the sunny side of the school she shyed and then reared up – my girl had some energy!!!! She went really well, quite light and very forward going – just a shame she had the numpty rider on board. Anyway we came 2nd, with Lindon Principal the college stallion coming first –deservedly.

And…………..she loaded on the second attempt to come home….the season has begun – YAY –
