As part of my college work, i am doing about equine breeding defects. I was wondering if it is true that the stallion King of Diamonds had that knee defect as i had been told. ? Info much needed x
well i've been told that the stallion had a knee default it was a inch or so out of place and incorrectable..... ? And this default had got passed of to his off spring.. some thing like one in three? i have known a horse out of king of diamonds have to be PTS due to her cripling knee but whos to say that was because of the breed default ?
Not an ID expert so can't really help I'm afraid. As a breed IDs in the past were not known for good knees(mainly back of the knee) but this has improved considerably with more selective breeding in recent years. Didn't see the old boy in the flesh and haven't heard this before so wouldn't like to comment.
He was such a famous and popular stallion held in very high regard so unlikely I think - as no one would have used him ?
Let us know if you find out more.
I've never heard that sorry. My loan mare is from the King of Diamonds line, I'll have a look at her knees for you. It would be interesting to know if you found out any more info.
