Hi Folks,

Im thinking of going to the next meet - any tips/advice?

My 5 yr horse has hunted with the bedale and somewhere in ireland last season - any advice? He evented up to prenovice this season - he isnt peak fitness hes being doin stressage and bsja since the eventing season has finished at the weekends

but he could do with learning how to open up his gallop a bit as he is a large ISH - will drag hunting help him open up if hes up galloping with another horse?

I was out with them yesterday at South Kilduff, Lucinda Russell's yard and I have also done Glentarkie. Kilduff is faster and flatter than Glentarkie and has fantastic going. Glentarkie is hillier and more twisty turny - you have less space to get out of trouble in the woods.

The meets are incredibly friendly, all jumps are optional and the scenery is outstanding. The weather yesterday was perfect and port in the ground of Tullybardine Castle is about as good as it gets!

There is always a 'pink lady' (although yesterday it was a man) you can follow if you are unsure, or definately don't want to jump. The next couple of meets are at Kilduff - dates are all on the website: http://www.kingdomdraghounds.com/ . The first half is all around the fields, so you could hack back to your trailer easily if you were unsure about fitness, although it isn't an especially long day (about 2.5 hours).

I would say just go for it - it is a great day out.

Yeah - you're probably right - to be honest I don't know what it's name is - Tully something or other - anyway, it was very pretty in the Autumn sun.

Thanks for the local insight - im sure my boy will be fit enough! I think im definately going to bit the bullet and just go to the next meet at glentarkie.

This may be a daft question i presume that we go around in a circle so that we return back to the lorries?!?

We could have a scottih HHO meet?

Yes, you end up back at the lorries!
Glentarkie is local to me, so I will just hack to the meet - you will probably recognise my wee pony from my signature - she is tiny!
I just fronted up myself for the first time at Glentarkie a couple of weeks ago and it was so friendly and welcoming I boxed down to Kilduff the following week. Go for it!
