Has anyone ever come across a kink/curve in horses spine? Obviously not the correct curve of the spine. Physio came out to a horse I'm riding that is loopy on the lunge and very very backwards with a rider on top. Finally got the owner to do something about it as its becoming dangerous. The physio said he has a kink in his spine and obvious muscle wastage from it with a little lump along his spine. She said she was pretty sure it wasnt kissing spines but was pretty obvious it was a vet job. Just wondered if any one had any previous experiences of this? The horse is only 5 yrs old. Many thanks in advance

Oh dear.....is this a lump coming up?

My mare had a bony lump like this on her back and I had vet look at it every time they came to do jabs...no reaction whatsoever and was told it was just her.

She had always been very quirky bless her, but started to show odd gaits and then the occasional extreme reaction to being ridden.

Started a long haul of investigative stuff and kept being told her back was fine...

As things getting worse (lame in all four legs and sacroiliac) she was referred to Rossdales where she had full body scintigraphy - They described her spine as "lighting up like a christmas tree" so followed it up with xrays of her spine

Well they told me they'd never seen anything like it - her vertebrae were completely deformed with bony overgrowths (looked like chunks of cauliflower!) and she had impingement of her spinal ligament as a result.

She'd been in pain for years, yet three different vets, a physio, a chiropractor and bowen therapist had all told me she was fine because she didn't react to manipulation.

Sorry it's a bit of a horror story, but that's what we had to deal from a very similar sounding isse.

Good luck x

Isn't it amazing what some horses cope with, we expect so much from them. My mare had KS and had put up with it for years....she was never dangerous and had probably been trying to tell me but I didnt know what to listen for...now all sorted and I atleast know when she is in pain altho she is so subtle you can mistake it for her just not wanting to do something! fine line!

totally irrelevant post sorry!

But defo need to find a vets that specifically deal with spines....willesley are fab i would recommend them.
