Have any Horse and Hound members had experience with kissing spine? If you have a horse who is relaxed on the ground but very tense when ridden it can indicate this problem. Difficulty getting into canter another sign. 'Scooting' as if frightened of the tail another sign. And the very obvious signs of general soreness and depression of course.

It seems many horses will have KS but work OK because they're not impinging on a nerve. You can spend a lot of money on massages etc but the reason they should ask for vets referral is for £120 (well that's what my vet charged) you can get a spinal xray done and get a true picture of what's going on.

If you do have experience I'd be interested how/if you managed it, also what breed the horse was/is, the conformation of the horse's back, any other 'interesting' conformation or clues. I think sharing information could help horses and their owners.

My boy has it if you go in the veterinary section of the forum you will already find loads more stories from people with horses with KS. I went down the steroids route with lots of pessoaing and work to keep the muscles built up and the spine supported and hes 100% sound and happy jumping. Confo wise hes a bit long in the back and thats it, he has pretty good conformation. Hes a 17hh Belgum warmblood (9yr old) but was jumped a lot as a youngster and thats what hes bred to do :). He only shows discomfort if he has time off work so I make sure he is pessoaed (on vets advice) reguarly and kept in as much work as possible. He was also incredibly tender to touch across the back where the muscles knotted before he had steroids.
