My boy is off to Rossdales for a bone scan - he has two KS in the lumbar region.

I have read on here that many people have opted for Willesley - just wondering if anyone had been to Rossdales?

Also, what was your rehab plan?

Thanks

Day one after the op- 2 x 10 mins walking in hand

Built up to one hour a day by week 6 post op.

Week 6 - 6 weeks of lunging, started of in side reins, just walking and trotting, to lunging in the pessoa in walk trot and canter over poles. Pessoa has to be tight, which is horrible, but it is the only way.
Lunge for 30 mins a day plus one hour walking before hand and half an hour walking after the lunging.

Regular physio throughout the 3 months of post op- lots of H wave therapy.

3 months post op you should have a very fit and muscular, supple horse!

my horse went to my own vets in maidstone newham court he has done a fantastic job so far.

It was three weeks monday post op we are walking 10mins morning and evening and uping to 15mins on friday, in three weeks time it will be reviewed with maybe turning lass out and starting the lunging programme.

hope all goes well for you

hope u dont mind me asking is the horse in your signature the one that had ks??

how long has it been since the op??

thanks

Willesley for me also, im really sorry but you would have to look up my previous posts for the rehab as it was so long ago now, best of luck with your horse.

Not the one in my sig, this is him below. Operation was in April 2006- he had 3 half vertebrate out. I sadly dont have him anymore as he was not brave enough to be a top eventer, so he was sold to a dressage/sj home.

Just a picture to show that you can hardly see the operation site- if you look carefully, all you can see is slightly bumpy bits on the back?

Our vets were reluctant to refer to Svend for the surgery as they really wanted to do it themselves, but after a small period of being particularly unhelpful they seem to have recovered from the indignation!

That's interesting Kerilli - a new name to add to the list. Do you remember what the rehab plan was?

I find it quite interesting that there seems to be 2 extremes: one where you do nothing but walk in hand for 6-12 weeks and get back on in possibly 6 months and others when you should be lunging quite strenously and be on board by week 12.

Did anyone else's horse have their impingement in the lumbar region? I am told this is quite rare?

This was a long time ago (i think it was about 1991) but the treatment was box rest for either 6 weeks or 6 months (really can't remember which!), then walking out carefully in hand, then under saddle, building up slowly. worked for my lad.
btw, Peter's retired now, but they have very good other surgeons there.

Update on Bridie!

My vet is sending xrays off to willesley (he then goes on hols for 2 weeks!) but will have another vet cover so hopefully she can get in by the end of the month then iv got a [****] winter ahead!!!

its so nerve racking but its her only hope...these are times when i wish i had land and my own stables!

my horse's ks is in the lumbar region which is too thick to show up very clearly on the xray taken at the yard. so he has been referred for a bone scan at rossdales. he will be radioactive for 24hrs afterwards. i think it depends on which vertrebrae are impinging.
