Hi, My 4 yr old has been diagnosed with KS in 3 places in his lumbar region and the vets are wanting to try tildren. Has anybody gone down this route? Any info good or bad please.

There are lots of people on here who's horses have had and still have KS. Nerve blocking does work for some along with an intensive fitness regime. However, as I believe it, it is not a one off permanent cure. The nerve block can last from (I think) 1 to 4 months but every horse seems different and only time will tell as to how long it will last on your boy.

I am sorry to hear that he has been diagnosed so early in life and I know it knocks you for six. My girl was diagnosed last year with 3 impingements that were practically fused so the pallative route was not an option for me. We had to chose the surgical. She has now made a complete recovery and is now proving to be the horse that I always knew was just under the surface, but could never quite get to.

Good luck with whatever you decide and know that there is a huge amount of support for you on here. Sorry I can't be much more help.

Hi, thanks for your comments, unfortunately I have not been offered the injections to nerveblock the areas as he would need too big a dose to do any good and then you can get into all sorts of trouble with laminitis etc. that is why they have suggested tildren which is supposed to stop the bone changes getting any worse - its more commonly used for bone spavin, but apparently it is also successful with KS.

My horse just got diagnosed on tuesday....i dont really understand it...i know 7 vertebra are affected.....she had 14 steriod injections.....now we are having to lunge her shortly am and pm to see how she moves....shes still got spasms along her back and she isn't quite tracking up enough on her right hind.....2 days in i guess im being impatient but vet said we should see improvements....any one had similar experience pls PM its all too stressful (going on hols on tuesday...typical!)
