I suspect my pony as Kissing Spine, he has started to dip his back badly when you get on him, anyone any experience if this problem?

Kissing spine can only be diagnosed through xrays... if you suspect your horse has a problem I would get a vet to see to him

Agree you need xrays. My horse is being operated on in a week's time. He never dipped his back.
What do you weigh and how big is your pony? How long has he been doing this? Are you still growing or an adult?

ive had a physio look at him twice but he still is very sore, what made you suspect your horse had it?

I'm taking my mare for x-rays next week. I attended a show last weekend and the judge commented ( not very politely) that my mare was "in pain". I got vet out to settle my mind and he mentioned kissing spine. Treatment is bute, cortisone injections into spine and / or operation. I am now quite worried about the future for my mare and cost of all this. X-rays will show if it is spinal problem. I'm really hoping it is muscle problem, possibly due to a saddle I had and was supposed to be fitted by a professional saddle fitter (not!!!), which can then be treated by massage and magnets / heat pads.

I have a bill on my desk for £300 for steroid injections. They were brilliant - and lasted only three weeks.
My quote for the new ligament cutting operation is £1600. I wish now I'd skipped the steroids. Because there is no bone sawing or big holes, the rehab with the new operation should be only a couple of months.
I hope yours is muscular, but if not the ligament desmotomy is getting very good results.

Our boy was diagnosed with kissing spines last october, through xray. We actually thought he was just really naughty, bucking, spooky, would not load, in hindsight he was just in pain.We have steroid injections that month and the results were great....we had our old horse back! However they only lasted 3 months...we then had the full operation in february...a combination of bone sawing and ligament desmotomy.....we followed the rehab programme to the letter.....and now....he is back to his old self.....no actually he is better! If your horse does have kissing spine, we found having the steroid injections gave a good indication of the likely results from the op.
