Kissing Spines....tight muscles...tens machine ideas

My horse has kissing spines.....amongst many other problems and the physio came on Saturday and has left a tens machine for me to use on him for 40 mins a day! I can position the pads well and start off.....my horse looks very very confussed at this point! I put a roller on him and have attached a sock to this so the unit can go in here and not fall off. Hay net in place to amuse, although this only seems to give about 5 mins of attention for him. The problem i had last night was that the machine obviously is alien to him and he tries to swish off the pads with his tail, which he succeeded in doing aout 5 times last night...any ideas as to how to keep then in place longer...they are only held on by the conductor gel and the back pads are placed mid way between his loins and tail, these are the ones he swipes!

If you plait the bottom part of the tail and then bandage it up like you would for a mare about to give birth then that'll take that problem away
