OH has finally got a splendid new horse, he is a massive grey Irish Draught horse who stands about 18hh.

Weeny problem is he didnt come with any tack, and we need to kit him out. OH would quite like a synthetic saddle (cheap and easy to maintain) but this horse is mahoosive, he has a 64inch girth, extra full head and 7'3" rug size. Any advice of where to look for stuff very appreciated.

ta, Rach x

For rugs those Rhino extra rugs (forgotton if thats the actual name) but they're a very generous size. Go to your local tack shop and they should be able to order any tack you need (I've ordered verious extra full nosebands before without a problem). They should be able to order a saddle and girth in the size you need aswell

You can get some really nice cheap saddles at Ashford horse market, they have loads and sometimes they go for next to nothing. Bring your tape measure and you should defo find something.

Also recommend the 'Heritage' english leather stuff, they sell a lot on ebay and I just bought the X Full for my girl (you have seen her big head!) and they size large because it's slightly too big! Infact, if you are interested in it I'd happily sell it. It's eng leather Black, and a comfort bridle. Very nice but might be too 'posh' for what your OH needs? Let me know though

Ebay would be a good place to start, especially for things like bridles and headcollers etc.

Also I found that the Weatherbeeta Arion comes up quite big for a HW turnout. My boy has 7ft rugs but could have got away with 6'9 in this. So if you struggle to get anything bigger than 7ft you may want to try the Arion.

I have a huge girth - about 5' long that I originally had for my old clydie when he was a lot more substantial.

Now far too big for him.

PM me if you want it - chuck me a £5 and a couple of quid postage. It is in excellent condition with hardly any use and is black cotton.

LOL - I had fun kitting out Tops! He wasn't quite as big as your lad, but at 17.1hh ShirexTB, he wasn't small either! One word of warning though with regards to combo rugs - often there is not enough neck room for the really big chaps! I tried Masta, Weatherbeeta, Amigo and Kingshead combos on him and ALL of them strangled him - in as much as the top front strap choked him when he put his head down to graze! Thankfully, I was borrowing rugs and trying them on him, so I didn't waste a fortune in rugs! The Rambo's and Rhino TO rugs were the only ones I could find that didn't restrict him in this way! As I couldn't afford one of those att, I went for a seperate neckcover. He sounds a smashing chap - when are we going to see piccies!!
