Has anybody seen the write up in the H&H for Knaptoft I think!! Kitty Boggis saying she thinks she held Five Boys a bit too much at Aston where she had trouble and that because he used to be a hurdler she just let him go round Knaptoft XC.

I suddenly thought after having a horse since he was 5(ish!) and bringing him on from PN to Advanced you would roughly know how to ride him XC!!!???!!!

Didn't see him at Knaptoft, but that course does rather lend itself to kicking on racehorse style - the course is well up to height but has lots of nice inviting hedges and hardly anything tachnical. That and the fact she must have gone round the Intermediate track or the 2* - a whole load less scarey than an advanced track.

That horse didn't impress me at Aston - was backing off and not jumping well. By the time he actually refused it was almost inevitable (looked as though he has considered it at every fence before that point).

Made me wonder whether last year (Badminton and then the Europeans on top) might have soured him. Will be a shame if it has - nice little horse and they looked like such a good team last year.

I can tell you from experience that over a period of years, as they get older, horses like five boys change a lot in their preferred way of going. I've had boss for 5 years, he has changed radically, he jumps completely differently now and so i have to ride him differently.
I find it hard to not go back to how I used to ride him and he's my only horse- imagine having a string of horses and having to constantly adapt your riding!!
Kitty's a fantastic quiet rider, she's lovely to watch always

Yes but she was adapting her riding to how he was how ever many years ago (when he was a hurdler)

I totally agree about Kittys riding and have enquired about a lesson from her, just thought the comment was alittle strange
