Hi Guys

Could anyone tell me if they have a KK Ultra Pelham and how they find them?
My lad can be intermittantly strong, 95% of the time he feels lovely & soft but occasionally he can get strong and when he's like this I can struggle to stop him.
I was wondering if the pelham would just help me out with this when I need it and not interfere when I don't as I don't want to over-bit him as he becomes stuffy & behind the leg?
My thinking also was that perhaps it would give me a little extra confidence that I can stop him if he takes off and it might make him think twice about it?

Thanks

I tried one on my Dales pony and she started going up. It wasn't the answer for her although she was very strong. I think it overfaced her.

My current horse responds very well to an NS Universal with lozenge. She tends to take a hold and go but she respects this bit and stops easily with it.

Perhaps you could try hiring a KK as they are quite expensive? The only problem is that the cyprium stuff is very soft and marks easily and if you mark a hire bit you generally have to buy it.

Not much help am I!

A normal pelham with double reins might be an idea. If he goes well normally try to keep the same mouthpiece then ride him off the snaffle as you would normally but you have the curb for that 5%. Just an idea.

Thanks for replying guys.
Ezme - I have ridden him in a rubber pelham but not for a good few years now, at the time (he was only 6yrs) it felt like too much bit for him but I suppose it would be worth a try now, he might go much better in it...

George is a big fella and can be very occassionaly strong i.e. when jumping away from home and I had some success with a dutch gag, but I now have him in a low port kimblewick with elastic curb and he is going really well.
