Myself and my 15 year old daughter keep our horse and pony on a largeish livery yard. Not surprisingly, things do occasionally get "borrowed" but they do usually return. However last week, my daughter's pink poop scoop (it has her name on) went missing. I wasn't too concerned as usually things do come back. It wasn't until Saturday that I had the opportunity to ask a member of staff who happened to be the daughter of the YO if she had seen it. She replied no, but she wasn't working that day (as if that made a difference). Less than 5 minutes later, my daughter returned from fetching in her pony to say she had seen the poop scoop on YO's stable block where it is generally accepted liveries don't go. YO daughter nowhere to be seen at this point so daughter went onto yard, fetched scoop and came back, on yard for less than 20 sec. YO daughter then gave my daughter a B*ll*cking for going onto their private property and potentially disturbing a mare with her week old foal!!! I was livid: firstly if you don't want people on your private yard - don't take their stuff and secondly If she didn't know where the scoop was, how did she know where my daughter had found it? I did confront her with this at the time - she "forgot" she'd seen it!
Have written a note to YO saying next time I won't go on her yard, I will deduct the cost of a replacement from my livery. Have since found out she has quite a stash of "lost property" hidden away.
Sorry for rant, bit long, but what would you have done?
