Has anyone on here owned one? From reading about them I have fallen in love with the breed, and may try to organise a visit to a stud at some point to see if I love them as much irl.

And is the sports type capable of competing to higher levels? I googled about their capabilities and felt a bit irritated when one of the first responses when an identical question was put on yahoo was that you rarely if ever see spotted horses at the olympics and badminton, therefore no they aren't. Obviously not all are suited, but surely with careful breeding, training and management (even if they don't go right to the top) some would do quite well?

probably part of the reason you don't see many out competing is because there aren't many! I think my girl is, as she is too big to be a true appaloosa and looks much more like a warmblood/ knabstrupper type, but have no breeding on her passport.
my girl is really just a happy hacker with a few local comps, but as they have a nice warmblood build don't see why they wouldn't be capable with the right training to do well.

Never met a bad one!! A friend of mine has 3 and they are all very talented and have competed at windsor/hickstead etc do well at showing and i love her youngster! Easiest horse ive ever known :)
Wouldnt hesitate to buy one if it was what i was after and i dont do spotty horses :p

I've never met one but they are fabulous aren't they! I don't see why they wouldn't have potential. I mean how many competing sport horses are out there, and how many total are going to the Olympics and badminton?! Take a breed with even smaller numbers and it is pretty unlikely statistically that one would make it that far, but not impossible since they should have all the usual warmblood characteristics that are so popular these days.

Yahoo answers is pretty funny though!

Yes mine is a half knabstupper, half TB. I think she's pretty cool. She's only 5 though so what she will turn into I don't know. Shes fun and can certainly jump! She competed at Badminton this year too, just at the dressage championships :p ;)

She was a HHO baby so if you search my posts there's lots about her on here from day 1 :)

Thanks for the responses guys :) I think I just fell even more in love xD I want to breed and produce sportshorses eventually, but wanted to look for something a little different!

Vickijay and Pippixox, your horses are stunning!!

Beautiful horses and I'm sorry to say that I've never had the pleasure of knowing one!
Every time I see the name knabstrupper it makes me smile thinking of the HHO joke of the knobstrapper!
