As most of you know I had an ankle replacement last August and things are going as well as can be expected, if not better. Back riding, even started jumping

However I also suffer from RA and over the last few months my knees particularly my left (same as ankle) as got considerably worse.

Today physio has said to rest it a bit more as it is warm and swollen. and if no better in a couple of weeks will look at injecting it

Not such a great problem really but pony has been doing really well and things finally starting to progress and now yet another 'wait a bit'

It is doing my head in. why oh why can't I be 16 again and fit and healthy???

I am grateful that it is me and not a pony injury that is holding things up as too me that is worse as you can't ignore it

So those of you with knee problems how do you deal with it??

No help really I'm afraid although I did have a knee op several years ago but that was due to cartilage issues. Out of interest what do they inject it with - is it just a steroid?

I saw some programme - maybe it was childrens hospital or something and a child had arthritis in his knees - I am sure they injected botox or something into it and this improved it greatly for several months. I am sure it was botox.

It is horrid having painful knees so I know that much but do not know what it is like to suffer your condition so I really feel for you.

Yes it gets boring when you spend more time talking about part of you disintegrating with age!!

One thing I would say is do take a look at K'vall stirrups, they have helped me loads and should take all the strain out of your knees and ankles

They also stopped me from being dumped into plough on Saturday as my horse performed a massive rear and capriole before charging off with me...

thanks yes usually steroids it works great on my shoulders, so I am hopeful. not heard of botox for joints will have a look

I always ride in Sprenger stirrups but will look at those too. Thanks

oh my word they are different!!!

Don't know how I feel about those, surely you can't get your foot out as fast in an emergency

how on earth would you manage jumping in them?

The front is a cage and the back part breaks apart easily (little finger is sufficient), so you cannot get hooked up in a fall. Due to force of antics my right one broke apart on saturday!!

They are radically different, and would be surprised if you didn't get some serious relief from them, as you are no longer balancing on a bar.

Yes its a little bar which the sides 'pop' on, so either side can pop off or if your horse leaps up and down whilst trying to kill you the whole back bar can pop out... apparently... I just stopped and put it back in without dismounting.

Ta

and sorry for all the questions

how easy do the come apart? and could you carry on riding while they are apart ?? Ie if horse is jumping and we jump not so together could they come apart too easily?

I've done fun rides, cross country, tent pegging, showjumping and hunting and never had them come apart before even in pretty sticky situations!!

I think this Saturday was exceptional, as I took my horse hunting after a week of no exercise (post snow and no riding) and he did officially try to kill me and I was extremely close to eating dirt.

They come with the leathers, although it is possible to use them with normal ones, but I like their own as no bulk under the leg, so more like my comfy T bar ones.

Ah - just had to check myself then, I knew I hadn't totally made it up!

There are actually a few articles about botox being increasingly used for pain relief (I am at work though so shouldn't really be looking - or indeed be on here!!! ha ha)
Thank you very much!!! will take a look

Ta Jen I must say I am very tempted. Seen a link that says you can try them for free, but I bet that is Europe only. have emailed anyway

If you have time could you explain how different they feel and what it does for you personally

They seem to say it also keeps the lower leg in almost perfect place even when jumping etc.

I am trying but can't imagine how it would feel to have all your foot stabilised

Erm to ride in, very quick to feel normal, and give you a weirdly good sense of stability, balance and confidence!!

I put my 60 year old parents in these and was the first time my mother could balance and ride without being in massive amount of pain (she is very stiff and resistant about going to the physio even though she needs to!!)

If you stand on the ground and go into a forwards riding position, its like the difference between balancing on toes / ball of your foot and having your foot flat on the ground - big difference!!

Thank you!!

I must admit it does sound exactly what I need. I just have to try and find the money somehow

My list of needs may have to change lol

I need

Radiator for lorry
plating and tax

Trouble is I don't really have the cash for those either

lol

then I worry if I don't get on with them it would be a waste of a LOT of money

:pondersalot:

could sell my sprengers too

oh one last question (I hope)

I notice that the back of them (inside corner) it looks like it would make contact with the horse's side especially if you turn your toes out like I do on my bad side ??????

You buy them in shoe size, so you don't have much of an overhang

Does not function as a spur and interestingly stops the toes turning out, which is often the end result of trying to balance
