Would any of you talented folk who knit when not horsing around happen to have a pattern for a knitted skull cap cover with a peak?

My Harry Hall ventilated hat is lovely in summer, but is letting a bit too much cold air in now that the mornings are chilly so I was thinking about making a knitted cover but I can't find a pattern and I'm not too clever yet at making my own.

Does it have to be knit, or could it be crochet? I say this because it is dead easy to make hats without a pattern in crochet, adjusting the size as you go along.

ETA. something all ribbed, or at least ribbed along the bottom band would be useful , to give stretch so you can make it with negative ease and stretch it taut over the helmet.

Also, try Ravelry for loads of free patterns.

If you don't want to knit there are some lovely hat covers on Facebook that go on your hat and around the ears and do up round your neck, all colours and patterns, look up cosyhatcovers on Facebook, I've ordered one for my daughter. I think they're suitable if your hat has a peak

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I like knitting so that bit isn't the problem - I am also learning to crochet, so might give that a go as well. You could well be right about the ribbing. I think the needles will be coming out over Christmas . . .

Recommend the ones that go up over your face (think like a balaclava). Apparently it's not a look which will pull me any men any time soon but I don't care..I am not coming home with the bright red cheeks which make me look like a closet alcoholic.
