My pony caught the ergot on his near side front heel today in a jumping lesson, not sure if it was when he clipped a pole a couple of times or if he overreached from behind. It was bleeding a bit from its base though not much at all and isn't loose. I cleaned it up and he's not lame but felt like a bit of swelling was coming up just around it. If it has been loosened or torn a bit at the base I'm guessing it's likely the ergot will come off at some point and just regrow?
