Sorry if this has been done before

But I was just wondering what you use to fill your kongs?

Otto has had a special treat tonight because he was so good at the vets (walks in a week!

)and we bought him a kong (extreme because he has jaws of death and chews for england!) so need some ideas for fillings!

I know you can get kong spray stuffing, but at a fiver a can, I'm sure there are cheapers options.

At the moment he has a puppy bonio wedged in keeping him highly entertained

I've heard of some people filling the kongs and freezing them but I don't know what they use. I smear a little bit of marmite in them and sprinkle some biscuits in them.

Is nicer (and healthier) for your dog if you don't use kong filler

Mine gets:

Mashed banana with live yoghurt - cream cheese or peanut butter to seal the holes - then freeze. Also sometimes use berries instead of banana.

For savoury options I stuff his kong with bits or meat and or cheese - then seal with cream cheese. I don't freeze that one.

or if I have some left over cooked rice - I mix that with meat and cheese and seal the ends with cream cheese if it needs it.

I feed raw food too - so I sometimes stuff with frozen mince or tripe... but that migth not be to your taste!

I can't say I fancy it, but Otto is not fussy!

I think I've found a winner, he goes mental for the tuna/natural yog/cheese combo! I tried him with some chicken and the a cream cheese blob on the end, but once the cheese was gone he got bored.

Bought him some peanut butter today for him to try, so will see how he likes it! He also has sardines (as a special treat) for on his dinner, so might see if they work.

I use peanut butter or their dry food mixed with grated cheese. One word of warning....don't do what I did and put meat in expecting them to get every last scrap out. When I put some minced tripe in over the summer 3 days later the small one was crawling with maggots.

I wash them out really carefully between uses now!

I use a variety!

Peanut Butter
Mashed Banana
Sealed with bio yog and frozen

Mixture of berries
Sealed with bio yog and frozen

*************

Couple of treats wedged in (pieces of cocktail sausages / frankfurters / cheese chunks / cooked chicken etc)

*************

Sardines/Tuna - but can be messy to get in / not frozen

(only prob is my mutt chucks the Kong around to get the goodies out so I end up with tuna/sardines EVERYWHERE

I'd avoid the Kong fillers = you can spend £5 elsewhere and have much better fillings.

The reason for freezing is a) it more difficult to chew from the word go b) for puppies its great when teething as it soothes and serves the chew purpose at the same time! :-)
I sometimes put his food in it, or soak his food, stuff it in, and sometimes freeze it
depends if you want it in your freezer!
