Just unsure where to go next. My poor boy diagnosed with KS about 3 years ago, had steroid injections, shockwave therapy and masses of physio then started gradually working again. All going well until, being a complete idiot, he badly tore tendon and ligament as above (apparently equivalent to our Achilles). More physio and ultrasound treatment - rest needed whereas KS needs work and turn out. Get through another winter (just) and then he repeats the injury last winter. Again more rest but gradually able to start working again during last summer. Guess what, this winter both hind legs - same injury. His temperament changed, very difficult to bring in from field (rearing, pulling away trying to kick - generally very unhappy) and so different from normal. Back looks dreadful (so dipped) but can't do anything with him because of his hind legs. He is now having to spend far more time than he should in the stable and vet wants him to go on Danilon permanently, rather than "in case of emergencies".
Sometimes he's very wobbly behind and terribly "clicky" in his joints.
Some days he's back to his old self but the "bad days" seem to be increasing and I am just praying the spring will make a difference to him.
Please - any suggestions or observations ...? He's had two insurance claims spent up to the limit so no operation on the cards now. Anyway KS was fairly severe and it's difficult to know if pain and stiffness is caused by the back or hind legs.
Desperately sad as he is only 13 and we had started intro eventing and were having so much fun.
The vet is happy to keep him on pain killers indefinitely but is that wrong? So worried he might get cast at night as he sometimes struggles to get up, especially after rolling.
Love this horse to bits and just want to make him happy.
