Hi all,

I'm sorely tempted to try a pair of Kvall stirrups, as I suffer from painful knees and ankles. I have a cheap pair of flexi stirrups at the moment, which do help but I wondered if I might be better to upgrade to some proper Sprengers which has the 4 way flex (my cheap ones only flex forwards and backwards).

All thoughts, comments and feedback on either the Kvall or the Sprengers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :)

Firstly I am biased as Dad sells the things!

However I don't "have" to use anything and I truly love my kvalls - they are so secure and comfy and really help my back.

The sprengers potentially won't help your ankles as to balance still you need to stretch your tendons and force the heels down position, whereas with the kvalls your foot is in a normal position with no stress on the ankles. However apparently it is a bit like skiing (I don't ski).

So a good test is to stand on the ground positioned like you would on a horse with your feet flat on the floor - if this is comfy for your ankles then the kvall will be superior to the sprenger

Hi all,

Thank for you replies :) I have a cunning plan.........

Jen_Cots - Thanks for the tip about standing on the ground to test if they might be comfortable. It does seem more stable that way, and less painful.

I have emailed your Dad (I think? - Cotswoldsport?) and am going to see (and probably buy :D) a pair on Thursday. I've been swayed by the 14 day trial, so I have nothing to lose and potentially everything to gain!

I'm doing a fun ride on Sunday, so I guess after that I'll know if they suit me or not!

Here's hoping they help to put an end to knee, ankle and back pain! I'll let you know how it goes :)

If they don't suit, then I'll try the Sprengers.

Oh you are the Thursday lady! Ah ha - sadly muggings here will be at work, but my lovely father is stuck with the farrier! :D

Just make sure you get 100% with how they fit as you shouldn't get any rubbing at all and a fun ride should mean you are not stiff the next day at all (for the first time in years I can hunt and do long fun rides and I'm fine the next day even without a radox bath!)
