The top PAVO Cup Champion dressage stallion, Vivaldi, who also sired the Champion dressage foal in Holland this year is recovering after colic surgery on Friday.

According to the breeders website he was rushed to the Utrecht Vet Hospital on Friday and was operated on straight away.

Hopefully he will make a full recovery, but this may rule him out of the breeding season for 2008, unless it is during the latter half.

Wishing his owners all the best.

Yes, especially as I think he was one of the ones we saw at Edward Gal's place being got ready for quarantine and international collection. Once he leaves the unit during the 6 week period he breaks quarantine so that's a real problem.

BTW, do you know what caused the colic? Was it a hernia-related one? The dummy mare there is really hard and the guy who runs the place says he can collect single-handed which all does make one wonder, especially as Clinton had the same problem -- and it took 4 operations to sort it out -- this last summer. . .

Hi Ciss,

Am not sure of the cause. He was given an injection which seemed to make a difference for a short while and then he got worse, which was when Hans had to rush him to Utrecht.

I had wondered what happened to Clinton......and I guess this is the thing when it comes to AI, to make sure the dummy is not rock solid for stallions to mount.
