Ok, 14 month old entire male, has gone from constantly hounding to play to just sleeping unless we start the play or he is chasing the cats. Still eating, drinking, wanting to walk and play with other dogs. Vitals all ok.
Is this normal? It literally happened over night after being with my friends two dogs for a few hours. (they are both fine)

Hmm, they could have taken him down a peg or two, or just tired him out... But you know him, so I would say trust your gut, give your vet a call. They will probably tell you to just monitor him, ensure he is passing stools and urine ok too. Could be anything, or nothing, he could just be dog tired:rolleyes:. But give your vet a call if you are worried and just sound him out, see what he says :) x

This is most probably nothing like your dog but thought I would share my experience and if I were you I would get him checked. How long ago was this?

My boy is a king Charles spaniel and the other dog was a whippet.
My boy was like this after he had been to play with a friends dog. On the Saturday we had been to my friends and they had played and played and played, went home he slept quieter etc but was ok in him self still eating etc. Took him for a walk on the Sunday again he was ok but the Sunday eve into the Monday he went down hill like his back end had gone but out of the blue. I phoned the emergency vets which is 45 min away by car didn't want to take him there as I seriously thought he'd had a stroke or something so I phoned the out of hours vets I have my horse with as this is 10 min away - got loads of abuse off the vets about him not being reg with them although my horses are, went on to tell me people won't go to their own due to cost I said I don't are about cost just get him better!!
Anyhow turned out he had a slipped disc but it came on so quick and out of no where as he was fine for about 48 hours after laying with the other dog and even when he was playing there was no yelp of any kind. 6 weeks crate rest and he has come through thank god.

I would get him checked to be on the safe side and sorry don't want to frighten you as the chances of this are slim x

You know your dog best and I work at a Vets. If you think there's something not right then it is best to get your dog checked out, it really could be anything. We have seen quite a few dogs recently "off colour" so it could be something going round. Best to be safe than sorry especially with a lovely dog as yours - I have 2 of them..

Thanks all.
Lozhog- glad your boy is ok, not same symptoms as mine tho. Thanks for suggestion.
He did get told off a couple of times and the cats have decided they want to sleep on sofa so they have kicked him off there!
I spoke to vets when it started New years eve they said to monitor will call again tho as its been 5 days now. He has perked up a bit since then keener to eat now.
Slightly random but we dropped him to low energy food 3 months ago as he was too hyper training to the gun, so could it be he did too much over festive period (10days with lots of visiting etc) and due to reduced energy from food its taken its toll now fully in his system?
