My neighbours have a young Laburnum tree growing 1 metre back from the fence with my field. Even though it doesn't overhang my land I have been taping off a good area around it every autumn when its leaves and pods are falling. Am I being over-cautious? Just dont want to take the chance that the horses might eat anything that might blow into the field off the tree - as far as I know Laburnum is very poisonous to children and animals (or so Granny used to say!).

If its branches ever grow across the fence I'm going to ask them to lop.

Or am I just being a nervous nellie???

Got one in my garden and we are still alive, though we are sensible enough not to eat it

No, be very cautious as highly toxic especially the seeds I think. I can't imagine horses would eat it by choice but if they picked up pods/seeds while grazing could be very nasty.
