Laced or plain boots

I'm buying some new boots but before I do are laced or plain front better? The boots comes in both options so was wondering what the difference was?

i like laced - but ended up with plain - the laced ones give you a bit more flex in the ankle, but are heard to keep clean between under laces unless you only ride in them
