Can anyone tell me why the newer saddles on the market these days no longer have Dee rings above the panels? It is most inconvenient when I want to carry a saddle bag! Are they easy to have fitted by a saddler, or is there an easier solution?

You can buy d-rings that slide over the stirrup bars - I use them so I have a spare d ring (one for breastplate, one for saddlecloth tabs). Old Dairy Saddlery sell them, think they are under 'leather' and then accessories?

I had D rings added to Tia's saddle, one on either at the back and one at the very back to accommodate my saddle bag for Trec.

I have two saddle fittings coming up in Feb-time, and I'll also have the same put on them, as the anglo will need a saddle bag for Trec and Endurance, and so will the new boy.....:D

Very handy things to have, and my saddler does a great job.

:D

They tend to only be standard on saddles that are at least partly aimed at the endurance market )may include some VSDs for example) but most people dont' want them and they kidn of spoil the lines of a saddle, so most of us don't include them. We can add them to a made to order saddle for £20, two on each side and that would be the case for any bench made saddle maker.

thanks for this, very helpful y'all. Creme de menthe and sbloom, can they be added to synthetic saddles post production, so to speak? I had a look at the rings you mentioned Spottedcat, they look great for the front of the saddle but I need to put a bag on the back and even if I fix them to the girth straps the bag gets pulled under the flap. Grr! Thought you'd cracked it there!

Maybe have to just carry it on the front dees. My last saddle was a pony saddle with a crupper Dee at the back which was perfect!
