Hi, I was just wondering if I should be worried about the following and if I should be doing something about it?
I have a rising 3yo who hasn't really gown any significant amount of hoof for 5-6 months now.
His feet are short at the toe, broad in diameter, heels not collapsed, as hard as nails with not a single crack or uneven edge.
The farrier takes a look every 5 or 6 weeks but there is literally nothing for him to take off, and his feet haven't been touched for 5/6 months!
Now I wouldn't be worried except that he is very careful whilst walking down the hardcore path leading from the fields to the stables and is obviously feeling his feet somewhat, on the mud he is fine though.
Through the spring & summer he was trimmed every 10 weeks, I assume the hoof growth was proportionate to the grass levels!
The grazing where I am isn't good at the moment but he looks well in himself, gets plenty of hay and hard feed.
Should I be doing something about this now or wait and see what happens in the springtime?
Thanks
