Does anyone else feel like they're held back from doing things with their horse due to lack of transport?
I really want to join my local riding club as they are always putting on training clinics, lessons, etc and both my horse and I would really benefit but not having transport means we are stuck at the yard.
I would also love to box up and go to a local park, woods, gallops etc for a change of scenery! Doing the same hack is starting to bore us.

I've only taken my horse out once to a trec training event last summer which we hired a box for, however that cost over £100 and I can't afford that regularly!
My OH is saving up to do his trailer test as he has a land rover and needs the licence for work in the future but I doubt we'll be towing this year.

Just feeling a bit fed up - so many fun things to do if only we had transport, hmmpf :(

Why not put the money you're saving by not going to clinics, training events, lessons etc towards helping your OH save for his test and for a trailer. Otherwise when he has eventually passed his test you're still going to be moaning that you haven't got a trailer.

Agree with above. Have you tried advertising for lift shares or a competing companion? You may find someone who wants company or some diesel money. Or I believe trailers can be hired (near me for <£50 per day) which is more reasonable, once your oh has done his test. Finally, if it's really getting you down, plan to hire a box but rarely - every 6 weeks through summer? - and plan your trips carefully. Also consider doing a whole weekend hire, which is a bit cheaper per day, and do 2 shows in a row. Try things like the self rental sites as they are a bit cheaper.

I know, I used to think I'd never want for anything else when I got my own horse. Then a couple of years later I kept thinking how much more fun we could have if I had my own box and we could go where we want, when we want.

I got slightly obsessed with the idea in the end and luckily enough was in a position to buy my own little box, I realise not everyone is that lucky. Is there no-one else at your yard that you could share the cost with of hiring one?
