Hi guys

Thinking of doing ladies hunter astride, but have not really seen this class before so I'm not sure what type of horse normally appears in that class.
My mare is a successful small hunter, impeccable manners (I hear that's important for ladies classes...). Not sure I would bother putting her in a class where the only type judges go for is tall lightweights, or some such. Is she the wrong type? Or what is the judge really looking for here?

Any insight would be great, thanks all :)

Are you thinking of Balmoral? Correct attire for the ladies hunter astride is usually hunting costume so navy jacket and cream or white stock. Lightweights are normally the most traditional type for the class, but a good small hunter would be in with a shout.

Hi Mickyjoe
I was thinking more for the NI festival in Cavan.
Looks like I'm only going to have the bandwidth for 1 class at Balmoral, so Workers only for me there :)
I have a plain black show jacket and white stock, will that do? which colour johds? I have beige or white... Thanks for the heads up! I would've looked a right eejit going in with my tweeds on! lol

To be honest, your tweed might nearly be better than the black depending on the phrasing of the class. E.G. did it specify that it must be ridden astride by ladies wearing hunting costume? If so then it's definitely dark jacket (preferably navy) and a stock, but if it just says ladies hunter astride, then you could probably get away with your tweed.

They run the same class at Cork show and it specifies to be ridden astride by ladies wearing hunting costume, so we all wear navy and stocks. :)

Hope that didn't end up confusing you totally! :)

Haha! No you're grand, thanks for the advice.
I'll bring both and just ask the stewards when I get there, see what others wear in the warm up etc. Be crafty about it ;)
I'll let you know how it goes!...
