Can someone give me some pointers as to what bits are legal for dressage?

I ride in a sweet iron loose ring snaffle. I went to dressage on Saturday and my instructor questioned whether or not it was legal as there are two different colours of metal.

He didnt go his best, he was very up tight and wouldnt bend so im wondering if i should change bits to something different? He goes fine in the sweet iron at home so maybe it was just the excitiment of being out and in an arena which i normally jump in?

Thanks in advance.

It is more likely to be the show situation that wound your horse up.

The bits which are legal for dressage vary from the level of dressage you are competing at.

I'm assuming (possibly incorrectly) that you are competing in a low level - perhaps prelim - the snaffle is legal, and as far as I am aware there are new rules to allow mixed metal mouthpieces?

As long as the whole mouthpiece is sweet iron it is fine (doesn't matter if rings are different). And also I think that now BD have changed the rules to make mixed metal mouthpieces acceptable. As for tension, he may just have been excited/nervous and should be better next time.
