Hi everyone :) Hoping someone on here knows about lambs!
One of our lambs has got a fairly small growth type thing at the corner of her mouth... It's a sort of brown colour and about the size of a pea... do we need to do anything about it? :)

Sounds like it could be the start of orf - as orf is a virus there is nothing you can do except blue spray if it scabs over or gets bashed on something just to stop secondary infection, you might notice a few of your lambs may get it. The adult sheep will most likely have come into contact with it, and once they've had it they don't get it again. If really bad - and it can look horrendous if they do get it bad and have it inside and outside their mouth, it can cause the lamb to loose condition as they are reluctant to feed but it does clear up and sort itself out! Ewes that haven't had it before can get it on their udder where the lambs teeth have scratched the skin and introduced the virus so may be reluctant to let the lamb feed - watch the lambs - if they are standing around with hunched backs - start bottle feeding and check the ewe for mastitis. Can't think of what else it could be off the top of my head - google it and see if any orf pics look like what your lamb has - sheep are designed to go wrong at every turn, and snuff it if they feel like it!!!!:D:D

I totally agree with all the above!!!
More than likely to be Orf, very infectious to humans too so be very vigilant about hand wasshing and keeping the lamb away from your mouth!

I thought they would be cades - hence the mouth contact!lol! I often cuddle up with my babes after they have had a feed and they nuzzle round my face etc.... Lamns are fab, sheep are the backside of Gods creation and die for no reason other than they have nothing else to do that day. Useless creatures!! Dad has been a shepherd all his life, and so have I...I try and keep busy with the horses tho! lol!

As all the above have said, orf. They will both get it as they will be in close contact with eachother and sharing the same bottle. Blue spray, Orfoids if your vet has any can help, they are tablets you put down their throat. It will get worse before it gets better and they can bleed when sucking on the bottle. I had 22 pet lambs last year and they all got it. They all recovered.

Agree with everyone else sounds like orf and having got it myself on my arm I can tell you the itching is intense and lasts about 4 weeks so take every precaution ,good luck with your lambs I have 10 orphans and have invested in a shepherdess bucket it is brilliant and so labour saving .

It is quite right though, sheep only have one aim in life and that is to die asap :D, I do miss my lambs though
