Hi there

Not sure what board to put this on

Hope someone can help.

I am a first year Vet Medicine student looking for a lambing placement for Late March/April 2011. I dont have any previous experience and am struggling to find farms that need help and that have in excess of 200 Lambing Ewes. If any one can offer any advise/help that would be great

If you Google 'lambing assistant required' you'll find lots!

Try:

You could also try putting a notice on the board in your local agricultural supplies shop!

Don't worry too much about 'experience preferred' - there aren't that many experienced lambing assistants floating around - and farmers tend to assume that Vet students WILL have a clue and pick it up quickly! When I was breeding sheep, I preferred assistants with a brain but NO experience - that way you could teach them to do it properly!

Have you tried the National Sheep Association? Lovely people. They'll head you in the right direction. Do explain that you're inexperienced. Lambing "in" is easier than "out", otherwise I'd say, come to us. Lambing out, calls for a certain "technique" :D. Doing it, is the best way to learn. Good luck.

Alec.

I could put you in contact with a massive lambing operation in Ireland....circa 1200 ewes! Unreal experience and you will learn loads
