My dog who is not yet 2 she is a boxer x bull mastiff went lame in june she had x rays and they showed the begining of arthritis she was put on medication and lead exercise only. the problem is she has never gone sound since and has gone in for more x rays and vet is talking about operation on her as he said it could also be the pad behind the tendon as well as arthritis which means they would have to tear the tendon to get to the problem. So she has not been off the lead since june I feel so sorry for her does anyone have any experance of a problem like this.

My old dog (rottie) had arthrirtis in her toes and was lame most of the time. She was put on Metacam which is a pain killer and she was much better. She was on something else for the arthritis as well but I can't remember the name !!! Sorry. It does seem a long time for a young dog to be stuck on the lead. Might be worth you having a word with the vet to see if she can some controlled exercise off the lead.

We have had her off lead once since june and she was hopping on three legs after. As you can imagine with her having boxer in her she is totally bonkers even on lead when were in the vets surgery she jumps on the spot with excitment I just hate that she can not have a good run. She is currently on rimadyl and flexdin and is going in to the vets once a week for injections.

Poor little girlie it sounds as if your vet is doing everything he can. My old RR is on Glycoflex which is a joint supplement and that helps her mobility. Hope it all works out for her and she is bouncing about as she should be before too much longer.

my parents old springer had old age osteoparthritis, also went on metacam and it did help, however being the keen osteopath that i am i managed to get her on a joint supplement, and omega fish oils, since then she hasn't been on the metacam at all and is totally sound! its really worth trying, but remember it takes a good few weeks to kick in so best to keep the metacam until its active then try taking her off the metacam and see what happens. obv osteopathic treatment is always useful!!!
