Henry seems to have injured himself yet again....
We took him for a walk along the canal towpath tonight - quite a long walk but one that we have done many times before so totally within his limts. As usual he was running about, did at least 3 times as many miles as us and was having a ball. He also turned into marathon swimming dog tonight, he always has quite a few swims but tonight he decided to swim along the canal next to us - he must have done at leat a quarter of a mile and was still very reluctant to get out when we got to the bridge!
Just before we got to the end of the walk he was behind us as he was sniffing at where some ducks had been asleep minding their own business until Henry turned up. I turned to look for him and he was limping - he was only really dotting his left forepaw down and kept stopping to lick it. I thought he must have picked up a thorn so went back to him and had a really good check, but couldn't find any sore spot, foreign body, missing claw or any other obvious problem. I checked his whole leg and flexed all his toes and the joints and got no reaction
He wouldn't walk on it though, and was either dotting it down or hopping so being a great soft numpty I carried him for a while (until my back told me it was time to put him down). He limped on for a bit, then I carried him a bit further, then he limped on to the car. All this time he was still sniffing about and even shaping up to go for another swim - but was lame
So I have self-diagnosed a sprain of some kind and am going to keep an eye on it and try to get him to rest (yeah right) over the next couple of days. We have just got back from Leicestershire, and he is still limping a bit but it is much less obvious. He really isn't brave at all when things hurt but he's showing no sign of pain or distress - no whining, panting, shaking or anything like that - he's curled up next to me fast asleep.
Does that sound like a sprain / pulled muscle to you?
