Lame horse - any idea's??

My horse Badge came in from the field sound, then in the morning he was lame, we left him in, next day he was even worse (could hardly walk) but today he seemed a lot better, but still not sound.

He has heat in his foot and the lower part of his leg is up, but nothing too major. We thought it was gravel but it's seems strange that he would get better without any sign of anything coming out??

Can't see how it could be an "injury" when he went lame in his stable? any idea's?? Hope he is ok.

poss an abcess? other than that no idea!!!!

might possibly be an abscess... i've heard that they're very very common this year, due to the very soft ground through the summer etc etc. i'd get your farrier to have a rootle around maybe.
hope it's nothing serious.

maybe its a bit of a strain around his joint or a knock and it got worse with him being stood still. I'd turn him out and see if he walks it off??

thats what I mean by "gravel", just what ma and pa call it.

We've called the farrier, he's a busy chap but should come this week. I'd rather him than some small animal vet come and dig around!

Sorry Sass, got my story a bit wrong!

Mum put him out the first day but he came in much worse.

He doesn't do much in the field (i.e. stands there and eats, eats, eats!), he did an Intro BE event last weekend and was fine after that, he's only done steady hacks since - so can't really think when he could have hurt himself??

If he has an abcess and the swelling is spreading up the leg, he will feel better cos the abscess is dispearsing up the leg so less pressure in hoof

ok cool, don't want to seem tight but my mum is a good horse woman and we have a great farrier (who just happens to sell anti-biotics!), i already have a huge vets bill and so I'm gonna hold off on the vet for now. i'm a bad mum.

Gravel, I would bet my life on it. If it was something more untoward I think you would have realised by now. Although you don't want to do anything too hands on, I would not be adverse to tubbing and poulticing just to be on the safe side.
