So we went back to the Vets yesterday and after 6 months rest the shenanigans on Tuesday have left us with a Strain of the Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon. I might as well sit by a mirror and stab myself in the eye with a stick it would be nearly as much fun!!

Don't do that, sorry I had to go out and didn't see your next post. Just had a quick read on what's involved. And I quote (With early diagnosis and treatment the prognosis is good.) This was describing the'Sprain of the Accessory Ligament of the Deep Ditigal Flexor Tendon'. Is this what was diagnosed?
 
Spoke to my Vet and my Gorgeous Gulliver is broken. It appears that the original diagnosis of Suspensory ligament was probably an old injury and its his Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon which is probably an old age injury and needs a long period of turn out so he probably needs at least a year out. Its inside the Tendon sheath and these type of injuries are notoriously difficult to recover from. So I have 4 weeks of Box rest to contend with and then need to find him somewhere to live for at least 12 months if not the rest of his days. I am going to post this somewhere in the hope someone is deparate for a companion horse for 12 months.

Give Gulliver a big hug and kiss from me. And a great big Hug for his mum. Let me know what you get sorted out PM me if you like. You must be feeling so low at the moment. Is there any other horse you can ride? Although you probably don't want to think about that at the moment. I don't know what to say to comfort you.
 
Thanks Flowerlady. I havent ridden other than at walk since September so in an effort to focus on something more positive I am going away for a weeks holiday and when I come back I am booking into some group lessons.
 
Haven't followed previous posts, but I have got a pony who had majorly blown his deep digital, right by the tendon sheath, not the same but after just over a year he was back in work and is now jumping. So not always the end, but easy to say when I am at the end of the year off, not the beginning. Wish him well.
 
Thanks Llewelyn my horse was originally diagnosed with Suspensory in September I am now being informed this was an old injury so we have been off since August following a mis diagnosis and we were off in April,May and June having injections into the fetlock joint and prior to that Devember and Jan/Feb being investigated for lameness and a shuffling gait. I think this whole thing originated in November 2006 when he bolted across a car park and was never really diagnosed properly and at 17 I think the guy deserves a break now I just have to find him somewhere nice to live.
