Just wondering if anyone had any advice. Got on my boy yesterday and knew something wasn't right - I pushed him forwards in his walk and he felt ok again, then a couple of strides later he was hopping lame. Got off and trotted him up and he was lame on his right fore.

Box rested him last night and this morning his fetlock is swollen but mainly on the outside?! Anyone any ideas? Still very lame for a few steps then fine, then lame again! Have left him in today. He doesn't react to hoof testers so guessing not abcess etc. Any ideas?! All help appreciated!!

Do you think he may have slipped in the field & twisted it slightly? Boxing overnight would then have given it time to swell. I'm literally thinking like you might twist an ankle - it hurts when you take the first few steps, then it feels ok but if you put it down even slightly wrong it hurts again.

Not reacting to hoof testers doesn't guarantee it's not an abcess, it could just be forming & unless you press the exact spot you don't get a reaction.

turn out in a little space enough for him to walk around had his own pace make sure no other horses. cold hose start cleaning and politicing for a few days if no better call the vets!
