I pulled up at the yard this evening and knew that something was wrong with Ellie as soon as I saw her despite her being a couple of paddocks away. She was just just stood funny, resting her nearside rear leg. I went down and saw her joint was a bit swollen and brought her up to hose her leg down. A friend at the yard had a look as was concerned that Ellie was a little unsteady as she didn't seem to want to bear weight on her bad leg and was trying to turn on three legs.

So, she is tucked up in her stable and in the morning I will see how she is and give her legs a hose down again. It is the first time I have had a lame horse so am worried sick about her and worried that whatever is wrong will take twice as long to heal given her age (27). If she seems worse in the morning the vet will be called out but fingers crossed she will be ok.

No real point to this post but had to voice my worry, it makes me feel better!

Hope its not serious

Update on Ellie:

I went down to the yard this morning and no swelling! She is still occasionally resting the offending leg but is standing on it OK and showing no signs of lameness.

I will keep a close eye on her, but hopefully all will be well now. phew!
