A Mare kept at our yard came in very lame on tuesday. Have to say first that she is not mine, if she was would have had the vet to her there and then, but her owners dont seem to bothered that she is in a lot of pain and have still not had anyone out to look at her.
She is lame on the front right leg and bothhind legs, it is so severe that she would almost fall while trying to get her to turn, she does not seem to flex at the hock and is so stiff along her back it is almost impossible to turn her round. while walking she is tense and stiff along her back and hunps badly when taking a stride,
I dont want to interfere but I really think she needs looked at, the vet is cooming back to harry on tuesday and her owners are going to wait till then and let him look at her while he is there..
Any ideas.. was thinking it looked like the first symptoms of bone spavin

I know it puts you in an awkward position, but this is just downright cruelty if she really is this bad. I really think you need to report her to the RSPCA or WHO. She should have been looked at immediately. Please don't delay- It's the right thing to do.

Yes, the YO has an obligation, as the horse is clearly in pain

I would have a word with both YO and owner and convinced them to get a vet sooner - poor horse

That is awful,, why are they waiting till your vet comes out??
Smash owner in the face with a shovel and see how long they wait before they go to the doctors

Call the BHS don't sit and watch her suffer.

Horses only show that they are in pain when it is serious, and if she is that bad on 3 legs she is desperate to see a vet

def not spavin - sounds alot more serious - def they should get vet out - leaving it will make it worse as well as leaving horse in pain.
Doesnt the new law mean that its classed as abuse by not getting vet - I know you in very awkward situation - but i dont think owner could morally leave horse for another 4 days. I would speak to YO or owner directly - falling out with a human isnt as bad as letting a horse suffer. What a difficult situation - feel for you - but cant leave her to suffer

Totally agree with what others have said here...poor mare Needs Vet ASAP....should've come out straight away imo...crickey bet if they broke their leg they wouldnt wait for a few days before going to A&E this poor horse is obvioulsy in a great deal of pain bless her heart.

Please get owner/YO to get vet out urgently please dont let the poor horse suffer anymore than she has to seriously please...I know it's not nice to interfer but sometimes you really have to and this horse's welfare in the sense that its in great pain is at risk...

Is it their horse??
I don't give a TOOT (for admins sake) who owns it or runs the yard, that horse needs a vet
I would fall out with anyone if it meant that a horse/pony did not suffer unnecessary

In which case OP I think I would be telling your brother that he needed to get the vet now not next week and offer to call them for him.

yes, he is a real muppet at the best of times, and we dont really get on but I think you are all right, I am just going to phone the vet myself tomorrow, and can say what he likes. He likes to think he is a real know it all. cant let the poor horse stand like that till tuesday.

he bought the horse 3 years ago, think he had a bit of a notion of being john wayne.. he is my brother in law and is living in my husbands grandmothers house as they are building a new house on a site on our farm. The stables are at the house.. we use them for harry and new pony too, but it is a private yard.
