Poor Baron is lame

First time hes ever been lame since I bought him - 15months ago.

So yesterday when being ridden noticed he was lame on left rein. Took him out of menage and trotted him up and appeared sound on the straight. Popped him on the lunge and he was nodding lots (he seemed very very lame) on the left rein but his head went down when the outside leg went down so I am presuming the lameness is in the off fore around the elbow or shoulder? No heat anywhere in the leg and he is not reacting to any pokes or prods

I popped him back out last night and brought him in this morning. He seemed slightly lame on the straigt and still dips when right fore hits the ground. Not as lame as yesterday on a cirle (some people said he looked sound, and I would have thought he was sound if I didnt know he was lame yesterday)

Kept him in all day and then put him on a circle again and it was a bit worse. So thought it best to put him back out, as keeping him in obviously isnt helping)

Im thinking he may have fallen in the field as his rug was very muddy yesterday.

Any ideas where the injury could be and have i got it right that it is the upper part of his right leg going by my descriptions? If he is worse tomorrow I will call the vet, if hes the same I will give him until tuesday and if no better or still lame I will call the vet.

Any suggestions?

Brain hurting with trying to remember but is it that the horse is lame on the leg that it nods on or on the opposite leg? Either way, your poor boy is still lame. It could be as you say a simple slip on wet mud and if so rest should work wonders. I'd keep an eye on it though just in case it's the start of something else. If in doubt, el vetto! Good luck!

The horse lowers his head when the sound leg hits the floor, and raises it for the lame one. So make sure you check his near fore as well as this would be the one causing problems.

Dont know what he did as there was no swelling or heat anywhere, perhaps just a bruised sole or something but hes totally sound after 3 days rest
